As live events continue to be paused, postponed and even cancelled, it’s difficult to know how events will look moving forward. One thing is certain: they’ll be very different. When events are given the green light again, many businesses may choose to hire flexible staff over their full-time, nine-to-five counterparts.

There’s no avoiding COVID-19 alerts
When live events finally resume, event workers must continue to wear protective masks and disposable gloves to protect both themselves and your guests. Sadly, this may not be enough. Due to the nature of their work, there may be times when staff need to work in close proximity to each other, as well as the general public.
If an attendee or member of your team receives an alert from the NHS Test and Trace system, it could mean that you’re unable to continue to staff large events. Given that something as small as a COVID-19 phone notification could wipe out your entire workforce, you may want to consider alternative staffing solutions.
Staff sickness will become harder to navigate
In the past, if an employee had a cough or a cold, they’d usually shrug it off and continue work as normal. In the future, if a member of your team has an illness or even the slightest symptoms of the flu, they won’t be going in to work. If they do, they could now unsettle their colleagues and pose a massive risk to your attendees.
Of course, this means that staff will be encouraged to isolate immediately upon noticing symptoms and for as long as they are contagious (in the case of the flu, this is at least 4-5 days) – potentially causing you to be understaffed on key dates.
Hospitality staff will be harder to find
The hospitality workforce simply isn’t as strong as it used to be. A large percentage of the working population have now lost their jobs due to the shutdown of the sector during the various lockdowns, and many of these people may well have turned to new opportunities in order to make ends meet.
